RE: 5kq rear diff query
The pressure relief valve is usually mounted to the top of the tranny/diff.
It usually extends vertically from the housing and has a black plastic dust
cover. IMHO it isn't a valve in the classical sense of the word ... I think
I would consider it more of a vent.
I really doubt it is your problem. The seals do wear out over time ... I've
never done the seals on a diff, but they're probably pretty similar to those
on the tranny. It is actually pretty easy ... once you pull the half shaft
and the drive flange the seal is quite exposed. The only one that might be
more difficult is the large seal that some diffs have ...
