How to bleed clutch?

How do I bleed the clutch on my car? I used the left front brake caliper
method of bleeding the caliper in to the clutch. Problem is is does the
clutch pedal have to be up, down, slowly raised? Other problem is that
yesterday the clutch action was only towards the bottom. The top (travel)
was dead. I bled it last night (this IS a two person job!) myself. It
helped, but I couldn't get a good bleed on it. It's pretty much the same.
