NorCal Chapter QCUSA & Auto-Union 100yr fete
I thought I'd post a quick note to update the q-list on this. If there are
any folks who are interested in staying in the loop on further developments
please feel free to send me a direct e-mail! I currently am maintaining an
e-mail alias, but hopefully we will have a local list set up like the q-list
in the near term.
As I'm sure most of you are aware, this coming year there will be a
recognition of Auto-Union's 100th anniversary at the Monterey Historic
Races, to be held at Laguna Seca during the days of August 26-30, 1999.
General Racing and Audi are working with QCUSA to plan the event ... and I
think that the event will also serve as a catalyst to finally start a
northern California chapter of the club. Howard Dinits (and others) are now
working on getting the chapter officially started. Although QCUSA is
working officially on coordinating this event, I am also hoping that an
event such as this will entice enough quattro list members to gather
together as well ... I do know of a number of q-listers that are already
preparing to attend. By the way, to those of you that do not live in the
area around Laguna Seca, if you do think that you might like to attend, you
might want to get your reservations in place ASAP. Recently, I have been in
communication with QCUSA to see what was up from their point of view
regarding the event. There are a lot of items under discussion (hospitality
suites, new model intros, parade laps, etc.), and I understand that given
Audi AG can find the budget, Walter Rohrl will be in attendance. Talk is
that QCUSA will be trying to secure a block of rooms for members for the
event as well.
To those of you who live in the Northern California area who are interested
in participating in local events with other Audi fans please feel to send me
a direct e-mail and I'll make sure that you are kept abreast of things as
they develop. To those of you who are interested, I was thinking that it
might be a good idea if we did a quick survey for what interests you. To
those of you who are interested in helping with the planning of events,
please tell me what you think would be the area where you can provide the
most help, and what days of the week and times of the day work best for you
for get togethers. To those of you who would like to participate in events
I'd like to know what sort of events you like to do (e.g. autocross
(rallycross), meet and drive, family get togethers, track events, tech
sessions, ...) and if you know of any candidate events that we might want to
consider attending as a group.
