If indeed the 2.2l NA I5 is non-interference, I would think (but
wouldn't know for sure!) that the 2.2l turbo I5 10v (MC) would certainly
be an interference design, because of the lower compression ratio.
Does anyone have conclusive findings on the interference question?
Official word from VW-Audi, or first-hand knowledge of an I5 10v
suffering damage from a broken timing belt? I've heard the term "dynamic
interference" thrown around; could someone elaborate on that?
I don't recall the little service book (the one that goes along with the
owner's manual) specifying timing belt replacement at regular intervals,
and I've seen several generic belt companies' listings, all of which say
that the I5 is non-interference. I'm not saying that I'd risk it based
on those listings, but it does make me want to find out for sure.
