RE: help w/ 99 A4 purchase, esp price...

Son,

(And believe me, I mean it in a fatherly way...)

First off you (he) should DEFINITELY pay the $1650 (retail) for quattro.
Yeah, I know that you're sitting there at good ol' UC Irvine, contemplating
whether or not to drive to the 80 screen Mega theatre down the block or grab
a burger at In and Out and likely cannot rationalize the extra billage when
you get rain 2~4 times per term (wait, LA Nina...4~6x). But the plethora of
messages you've no doubt already received in this regard should sway your
brother towards the light. BUY THE QUATTRO. (Sorry for yelling) First off,
you'll make up for it in safety. Second, you'll more than make up for it in
resale. Third, well.....dammit this is the Quattro List isn't it?

Now. Take that nice printout of the Invoice price you have in front of you
and figure this. I have a guy here in Palo Alto that offered 7% over
invoice knowing that I wasn't quite yet to even considering price concerns.
Most dealers (sans audi) will see 2~3% over invoice as an agreeable deal.
However. (1) Most audi dealers could give a $%^&. (2) To their support,
audi dealers are NOT given factory kickbacks amounting to a few % of MSRP or
invoice....so don't expect this 2~3% over. Tain't gonna happen. Probably.

Base invoice for the A4 sedan is what...20,942k? (I know the A4tqw rtl is
24.6k) Add 1650 for the quattro. Add another 1025 for the automatic (are
you sure...I won't try). Add the 653 for the sport package (why not, it's
only money and you're in LA right?). Cold Weather pkg? (FYI, cold weather
can be <60 deg F for the sake of reference in Irvine...brrrrr) kind of a
toss-up for your brother, but if he is married or ever plans to have a
member of the "can't you roll the window up" sex beside him...go for it.
BTDT. Trip Computer? Not likely...I'll tell you right now....Avg
speed..10mph, MPG...12, Trip Time...groceries...20mins....work....3
hours....but if there's more traffic you better adjust respectively.

So. I get 24270. 4%=970. 5%=1213. And don't forget that lovely $500
delivery / destination / $300 profit charge on top. $1000 is possible in
this case... But I have a feeling most have paid more.

The most help I can offer is...DO get the car. DO get it with quattro.
Everything else is optional..
