AFAIK there's no way to do it without creating at least a little mess.
There are no drain plugs provided, so you are supposed to remove the lower
radiator hose and allow coolant to drain. Using a large (wide) pan can
minimize the amount of fluid that gets onto your garage floor. To drain the
fluid completely you either have to remove the heater hoses or jack the
rear of the car high.
