I had this exact symptom in a previous non-Audi after an exhaust upgrade.
After lots of perplexed wiggling of parts, I discovered that it was the donut
hangers getting slippery when wet. When the motor would shift the slightest
bit on accel or decel, the now glazed donuts would allow the exhaust to jump
around and bump into various bits of the car, causing various awful noises.
Solved partly by realigning the hangers and partly by apathy - eventually the
new exhaust joints settled and resulted in more clearance.
