blue cloth seat for 90q20v - repair?replace?

A friend of mine just bought a 1990 90q20v. It has a blue cloth interior, and
the driver's seat has a big gash in it - right down the middle of the outside
bottom bolster. The padding (bolster) seems pretty shot also.

So here's the question - has anyone ever gone about repairing a cloth seat like
this? Is it possible to get a new padding (from Audi or where ever) and just sew
up the cloth? Alternatively, does anyone have a line on a replacement seat?
