Broken Rolls... was Duct Tape

We've all heard stories like those below. Essentially the factory rep says,
"... a Rolls Royce doesn't do this," and the offending part is magically
replaced, even in some distant land, at no cost. A friend who lives in
Florida said that years ago the final drive in his new Rolls absolutely wore
out at about 50kmi. The factory rep dutifully appeared, looked at the car
and said, "... a Rolls Royce doesn't do this," turned on his heel and walked
away... claim denied! My friend was soaked for about $2k in 1965 dollars to
repair his "unbreakable" Roller.

Years ago there was a story that someone took a Rolls Royce on a desert
rally and broke the rear axle. RR flew out a replacement and commented
that if they'd known he was going to do this, they'd have fitted a
stronger axle for him free, and replaced the standard one when he was
done.
