I had a problem with my 90 V8 when water got into the transmission
control box and corroded some contacts. The car shifted into the "LIMP
HOME" mode wich is nothing more than being stuck in 3rd gear. This would
give you a higher than average RPM when attempting highway speed. Does
this sound like your situation? If so it means a replacement tranny
control box.Ralph Cook
