I'd tend to disagree. As far as physical body form and styling, the 80/90
series was way ahead of it's time. My '88 Audi 90 is often mistaken for a
late 90's model car by unskilled observers, and IMHO it remains a very
contemporary looking car. If you like angular lines over curved, then the
4000 is your ride. I personally think both the 4000 and 80 are great
looking autos. I agree that the 80 series looks a little unfinished
compared to the 90, but I parked my '88 90 next to a '89 80q for a year or
so, and the only external differences I could see are as follow:
The 90 has color matched bumpers. Top edge and bottom are painted body
color, 2 inch molding in the center is painted with black rubberized paint.
The 90 mirrors are painted body color.
The 90 has a quarter inch chrome trim strip in the window surrounds.
The 90 has a different tail light treatment.
With the exception of the chrome strip, the paint work could seemingly be
added to the 80 series by a skilled paint match and some ABS friendly paint.
Anyone on the list ever heard of an 80 with painted bumpers and mirrors?
Just curious.

Agreed. Both are very similer but the 80 loses the brick at the expense of
looks IMO. I might argue the 80 having a better dash and interior. Maybe
the 90 does but the 80, not so much.

Many advantages to the 4kq here. The MC engine conversion into a 4kq has
been done many times before therefore benifiting from the experiences. But
also it has a direct factory lead in being the UR-q. Therefore it has
factory parts for the intake (major pia). But also my guess is the wiring
is a little easier to deal with if you have an early MC motor. This is
because the fuseboxes are the same part on a 5kt and a 4kq. Dont know if
the 80 uses the same fusebox.

Many have argued the torsen is a dissadvantage(check the archives).
Personally I prefer not having something changing that I am not changing.
Such as a torsen detecting spin. There are many advantages to torsen but I
dont believe 10/10ths driving is one of them.

Agreed. They are both good cars. Personally I would not do an 80. I would
spend a little extra on a 90. I might be a little biased as I own 2 4kq's
also:-)
