I5s with water-cooled turbos
During the strip of MB001293, I noticed that there is serious wear to
the water transfer pipe that passes behind the cam belt backing plate.
When it reaches the turbo (right) side of the engine, it's supported
by a small bracket that's bolted to the side of the head by the damn
little bolt that you always forget to take out when taking the head
off. On MB001293, the grommet that belongs in this bracket has
vanished and the bracket has worn significantly into the pipe.
I checked Roger Galvin's 200TQ and he has the same problem. If you have
one of these engines, please check this point. You can fit a new grommet
by making a cut to pass it over the pipe and then prodding it into place
with a small drift or even a pencil.
