Re: Ur-Q hydraulic head conversion questions...
Personally, I have never seen an MC head with cracks (except for one that was
overheated) whereas every Ur-Q owner that I know has replaced the head at
least once and in one case, twice. If my conversion really works, it'll be a
cheap and easy way to address the Ur-Q's cracking problem since these heads
are readily available for $100-150 each and I have yet to find an uncracked
Ur-Q head for less than $400...
Supposedly, there is an uprated solid-lifter head available from Audi;
when I replaced mine ('83 UrQ), the part number was redirected to the
newer head. It even had provision for the "air shroud" (???) injectors,
which is I guess some air passage to direct some inlet air directly
across/around/near (???) the injectors?
Haven't pulled the head since (knock wood, glass, steel, EEPROM chips,
etc.), so I don't know if the new head still cracks the same way or not.
One random data point.
