Re: how to timing belt?

Here is a recipe for a pulley tool that I fabricated in less than an
hour and worked very well.

At the hardware store I purchased a steel pipe fitting which probably
 has a scientific name but essentially is a 2" male - 1 1/2" female
coupling. This fitting has a large hex collar, perfect for grabbing
onto with a plumbers wrench. The 1 1/2" hole is large enough to fit
 the 27mm socket through.

Using a grinder I removed just enough material from the male end to
slip around the metal key inside the crank pulley.

The 2" male end of the fitting is a slightly smaller diameter than
the hole in the pulley. I took care of this by cutting two ca. 3/4"
sections off a 2" copper pipe, cutting the rings open and wrapping
them around the threads on the male end.

Looks like something out of a Mad Max movie, but works beautifully.
