I would convert.  Once you open the system to repair, you're looking at
buying a full charge of R12.  
At that point, you can pay for the conversion with the savings in
refrigerant.  It seems to work fine if done correctly.  Replace all
o-rings with r134a  compatible, drain oil from compressor, flush,
evacuate, and charge with oil, stop leak, and 134.
