try spraying contact cleaner into the device (with it still on car) and
switch it a few times while still wet.  Might just start working again. 
If not, try again with it off the car.

well, mobil one comes in six packs.  Four at the oil change, two to get
you to the next one... a slightly higher weight might lessen
consumption, too.  You may also be able to find some leaks to fix,
unless it's all being burned.
