Perhaps it's detected knock because of the sudden cut in fuel pressure
(and thus supply) caused by the fuel pump cutting. It's been a theory
of mine that engines go spectacularly lean for one or two revolutions.

Also - the sudden cut in fuel pressure caused by the pump being shut
affects the air mass sensor plate. There are (IMO) four forces
affecting paddle position - two are control pressure (major) and
system pressure (minor). What happens to the plate (and thus the
plunger) when control pressure suddenly disappears?

No, but the MAC12D can set 2141 without flashing the light. It does
so if I fill up with Tesco's petrol.
