you don't need a working fpr to find out if the engine goes "bang". 
just jumper the fp before each test to pressurise the system then
crank.  any signs of controlled explosions, then you worry about making
the fpr work normally!  I still think you should back up a bit and just
make sure you've everything hooked up right.  Like counting the sponges
twice after an operation.
