Re: Speaker wiring question
-Noah
I believe that the confusion about the crossover comes from the fact
that in the stock configuration the dash speaker is full range. The
signal travels from the head unit to the dash speaker and then to the
crossover in the door where it splits into two. If you try to use the
stock wiring and crossover with aftermarket speakers I predict a less
than optimal result due to the probable speaker-crossover mismatch and
the fact that the dash speaker and crossover unit are wired in series
producing an impedance other than the 4 ohms the head unit wants to see.
Consider yourself lucky. I'm in the process of rewiring my whole system
due to the fact that the previous owner (ie amateur monkey lad) cut off
all the original head unit connectors, dispensed with the crossover, cut
out all the door wiring, and did a twist and electrical tape job on the
crappy wire he ran to the 6" door speaker. I'm planning on using two of
my head outputs to run the dash speakers and using the other two to
power a two way setup in the doors. I'm hoping to use my preamp outputs
to run the stock rear amp, but I've yet to decode the wiring to it even
with the help of the Bentley.
Hope that was the answer you were looking for. Let us know how it goes.
