87 5ktq Radio Questions

Hi all - I just bought an 87 5ktqw, and now that it is running, I'd like to
get the radio working.  It has a stock radio, which I plan on replacing
sooner than later, but for now, I'm wondering if there is a way to get the
radio code based on VIN number or something.

If I am not mistaken, when the battery is disconnected, a code has to be
entered to make the radio work - correct?  I don't have the code.  I do
have a title; I own the car - question is, is there a way for me to make
the radio operational, or am I stuck replacing it?
