Depends on which radio you have.  The stock radio that *should* have come
with 1987 US models is the Rothenburg, and it does not have security codes.
If your radio is a different model (previous owner installed an upgrade)
then it's possible that a security code is needed to turn it on after
disconnecting the power.

Perhaps if you describe the front panel controls I can help identify
which radio you have...
