Coupe GT digital dash washout

Does anyone have problems with the sun "washing out" the digital dash on
their Coupe?

My brother says that even in moderate sunlight, he cannot see anything
on the digital dash (and he has extreme tinting on the side and rear
windows).  I was wondering if this is a common problem, or perhaps he
has some sort of backlight that is blown.  His is the orange digital
dash of the '87.5 Coupe GT line.

I know a few of you have a digital dash...Mike, Allen, Ed....any
ideas?
