I tried the first one I could find, I forget what it was called. Oh
yeah, "One Step". The spray didn't work, the brush on did. "Rust Fix",
in a spray can *does work*. Goes on clear, you keep spraying every few
minutes to make sure enough chemical is available, the rust all turns
black and hard. (you should wire brush it as clean as possible first of
course) Over clean metal and painted metal it stays clear.

Well, you don't want a scrape starting the whole thing up again, do you?
I think someone mentioned a description of the chemistry involved, early
in this thread, I think the iron oxide is converted to iron phosphate or
some such. I dunno.
