Type 44 Inspections and service
Inspection service
Every 30,000 km:
Every 60,000 km: Automatic gearbox: Additionally change ATF, clean oil pan and strainer, renew oil pan gasket
- All electrical consumers: check function
- Check and top up windscreen and headlight washers
- Check clutch and adjust if necessary
- Check battery acid level and top up if required
(vehicles to 1988)
- Engine: Visual check for leaks
- Cooling system: Check anti-freeze strength and top up if required
- V-belts: Check condition and tension, adjust if necessary
- Toothed belt for camshaft drive: Check condition and tension, adjust if necessary (Diesel engine)
- Spark plugs: Renew. See "Emission and idling test" binder for correct designation
- Valve clearances: Check and if necessary adjust. Renew cylinder head cover gasket
- Air cleaner: Clean housing, renew element
- Fuel filter: Renew (carburetor and Diesel engines)
- Fuel filter: Drain water (Diesel)
- Door check straps: Lubricate (multi-purpose grease)
- Sliding roof: Clean runners and lubricate with silicone lubricant
- Engine oil: Change
- Oil filter: Renew
- Brake system: Visual check for leaks and damage
- Underbody sealant: Visual check for damage
- Exhaust system: Check for damage
- Track rod ends: Check play, security and dust boots
- Ball joints: Check dust boots for leaks and damage
- Gearbox, final drive, CV joints: Check for leaks and damage
- Brake linings (front and rear): Check thickness
- Tyres (including spare) - FL FR RL RR spare
- Brake fluid level, depending on lining wear: Check
- Central hydraulic system: Check oil level and top up if required
- Automatic gearbox: Check and top up ATF level if required
- Exhaust and idling tests: Check dwell angle on CB systems,
ignition timing, idling speed, CO content, and adjust if necessary
- Headlights: Check settings, adjust if required
- Sticker: Enter next service due and attach to left hand side of dash panel or on door pillar (B pillar)
- Road test: Check function of foot and hand brakes, gears, steering
- Diesel engine: Check exhaust for soot
